Dr. John Corsale - Veternarian Consulting

Meet John, Your
Veterinary Industry Bridge

I’m passionate about shaping the future of veterinary medicine, one practice at a time, one veterinarian at a time. I remember what it was like in the kennel, in reception, as a technician, as an office manager, and as a veterinarian. I have tremendous respect and appreciation for the people who are working day in and day out to create win/win outcomes: A win for the pet, a win for the client, a win for the people working in the hospital, and a win for the managing company.

I have managed companies of all sizes—from small-and-growing start-ups to established, nationally prominent corporations—at the highest level of leadership. Under my guidance, each company enjoyed incredible growth, profitability, efficiency, and positive reputation in the veterinary community. I believe veterinary hospitals thrive when doctors and technicians get the support they need, when team members like coming to work, and when pets receive high quality care.

What our Clients say about us

Dr. Kendra Pope
DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), TCVM | Prism Integrative Veterinary Health, Tinton Falls, NJ
I have known Dr. Corsale and worked with him for over 9 years in multiple different settings; employee and Chief Operating Officer, friend providing sage advice to a new business owner, and most recently, consultant and entrepreneur. Throughout all of these relationships, he has always provided me with clear, actionable, goal oriented steps to be able to move forward in my ventures. Many prior consultants were able to provide valuable insight and knowledge, but lack the experience to provide the actionable steps needed to make the changes, and more importantly achieve the outcomes we desire as owners. His vast experience as not only a successful operations officer and true businessman, understanding the nuances, fine details and nuts and bolts of the veterinary field, but as a leader with high emotional quotient, allows him to not only support the business aspects of any practice, but the human aspect as well. From owner coaching, to personnel management, to finding the hidden expenses within a P&L, I have valued my opportunity to work alongside him, and know it will continue to provide me with the return I have been unable to find in other consultants in the industry.

I had the incredible privilege of being mentored by Dr. Corsale during my journey from a veterinary student to a practicing vet, and one day, a future practice owner. What truly set Dr. Corsale apart was his ability to broaden my perspective and teach me to see the bigger picture. He emphasized the importance of balancing clinical excellence with sound business acumen, sharing insights into the operational aspects of managing a practice, from financial management to team leadership, all while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. Dr. Corsale's mentorship has been instrumental in equipping me with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the veterinary profession. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been his mentee, as his wisdom, patience, and unwavering support have made a profound impact on my professional development. As I always say, I thank Dr. Corsale for his passion towards veterinary science and business and his willingness to share that passion with me.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Corsale when he was assigned as my faculty mentor during the end of my first year of vet school. Based on others’ experiences, I expected to meet with my faculty mentor once per semester for a superficial but pleasant conversation that detailed course selections, progression through the program, and future career advice. My experience with Dr. Corsale was anything but that. When I walked into his office, he had an empty leather notebook ready, had reviewed my personal history, and asked me more questions about my goals and experiences in forty-five minutes than anyone had in my entire first year. Right away, I felt important, valued, and comfortable, and knew that I won the faculty mentor jackpot. When he started sharing his personal career history and achievements, my first thought was “is there anything this guy can’t do?”. Turns out that there really isn’t....Click on Dr. Hirshberg's name to keep reading.

A month after our first meeting, Dr. Corsale let me know he had signed up and was completing a class on mindfulness and communication styles through the undergraduate college in order to enhance his ability to communicate with and advise me. He sent me home with a book about mindfulness that corresponded with his course a few weeks later, and my mind again circled back to the “how did I get so lucky?” line of thinking. His dedication to our mentor-mentee relationship only grew as time went on, resulting in him becoming the first person I wanted to ask for advice from in most situations. By the end of our first year together, he had taught me the basics of how to play chess, had given me numerous informative novels, had kept me on track with my courses, allowed me to meet and become friends with quite possibly the cutest Boston Terrier around, and had made me feel like I mattered in an environment where it became increasingly easy to feel like I didn’t. Going through vet school is difficult, and having someone in your corner advocating for you that has already been down the path before is invaluable. There were so many occasions where I would come into his office extremely upset but leave feeling like I could conquer the world. He just had that effect. When it came time for my clinical year to begin, he reviewed all of the rotation offerings with me meticulously, ensuring that my ranking and time slot placement requests were perfectly aligned with my future career goals. We discussed practice ownership, what I wanted my impact to be on the veterinary community, the important takeaways of specific courses, and how to be successful in an academic setting. Dr. Corsale has always been so unselfish with his expertise, time, and knowledge in the entirety of the time I have known him. He could have easily satisfied the faculty mentor requirements by meeting with me once per semester, completing a quick checklist to make sure I was taking the right courses for my small animal track, and by sending me on my way. Instead, he treated me like family and helped not only navigate the trials of veterinary school, but also the difficulties of everyday life. He served as a constant source of wisdom, guidance, encouragement, and support throughout my journey. Knowing that he believed in me made all of the difference on the days where I didn’t think I could keep going. When he let me know that our time as mentor and mentee would be coming to an end, I was honestly heartbroken. However, little did I know that a year later, he would be by my side once again advising me through the process of contract negotiation for my first job post veterinary school. They tell you to read contracts carefully in school and to not sign the first thing that’s put in front of you, which seemed simple enough in theory. Yet, the first job contract I read was overflowing with phrases, language, and specifications that I didn’t understand whatsoever. Again, if I didn’t have someone with the degree of knowledge and expertise like Dr. Corsale in my corner, I’m not sure what I would have done. He combed through every contract I sent him expeditiously, highlighting areas of importance/concern and offering thoughts and suggestions on revisions that could be made that would benefit me. By working with him throughout my contract negotiation process, I gained a much better understanding of the verbiage of contracts and had the confidence that that my interests could not have been represented by a more qualified party. The difference between the first version and final version of the contract I accepted was significant, and that wouldn’t have been possible without Dr. Corsale. I can look back and confidently say that being matched with Dr. Corsale was by far the best thing that happened to me during my four years of veterinary school.
